classic #cocktail #cachaca #brazilian #lime

Spec

  • 2 oz Cachaça
  • 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
  • 2 tsp Sugar (white or Demerara)

Build

Add lime wedges and sugar to a rocks glass. Muddle to release juice and oils — firm but not aggressive. Add cachaça. Fill the glass with crushed or cracked ice. Stir to integrate.

Story

Brazil's national cocktail. Originated in São Paulo, ~1918, possibly as a flu remedy. The name means "little countryside drink." Cachaça is sugar-cane spirit, distinct from rum.

Service

Rocks glass, lime wedges visible in the drink, drink served with a short straw. Stirred, not strained.

Tasting

Bright, lime-forward, sugar-sweetened, with cachaça's funky vegetal note underneath.
